Smiley Creek Water Users Assoc. Public Notice

IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT YOUR DRINKING WATER

SMILEY CREEK WATER USERS ASSOC. Has Levels of ARSENIC Above Drinking Water Standards

Our water system recently violated a drinking water standard. Although this is not an emergency, as our customers, you have a right to know what happened, what you should do, and what we did (are doing) to correct this situation.

We routinely monitor for the presence of drinking water contaminants. On 07/20/2026, we received notice that the sample collected on 06/30/2026 confirmed that our system exceeds the standard, or maximum contaminant level (MCL) for ARSENIC. The standard for ARSENIC 0.01 mg/L. ARSENIC was found at 0.016 mg/L (Tiger Tail Well) and 0.017 mg/L (Vader Well)

What should I do?

• There is nothing you need to do. Do not boil your water or take other corrective actions. However, if you have specific health concerns, consult your doctor.

• If you have a severely compromised immune system, have an infant, are pregnant, or are elderly, you may be at increased risk and should seek advice from your healthcare providers about drinking this water.

What does this mean?

This is not an emergency. If it had been, you would have been notified within 24 hours. However,

Some people who drink water containing arsenic in excess of the MCL over many years could experience skin damage or problems with their circulatory system, and may have an increased risk of getting cancer.* from Appendix B to 40 CFR 141 Subpart Q.

What is being done?

Currently we are increasing Arsenic Monitoring to a 1/4ly schedule. When we have a trend line of our Arsenic levels, we will be able to evaluate corrective action options. We anticipate having a recommendation for the problem within 9 months.

In the mean time, full time residents may consider drinking water from another source, or a point of service water purification system.

Boiling water and standard counter top water filters do not remove Arsenic.
